Summer Newsletter
Updated - 12th July
Training
Training will re-start on Wednesday 16th May, from 18.00 until 19.30 at Maryfield (end of Barnfield Rd). We will continue at Maryfield until we run out of light around the end of September. The plan then is to move on to the newly laid astro turf at Kirkham Grammar on Wednesday at the same time, although this is subject to agreement with the club.
We will collect subs (1.50) on an a pay as you play honesty box basis until September. In September we will collect monthly as last year.
Following your responses we are introducing a Monday session at Maryfields through the summer. This will run from 6.00 until 7.30 until further notice. Cost will be 1.50, again collected weekly on an honesty box basis. To keep the team training together Wednesday is still a priority. If you only want to come to one session a week please make that Wednesday.
The Sunday morning kick around will continue between 10.30 and 12.00 earliest at Wesham playing field opposite the Fire Station. As Ive explained before you can arrive any time between these times. Its not a formal training session. There is no charge for this.
As last year, during the school holiday we will arrange friendlies as we get closer to the season.
Registration
As last season we will be completing League and Club registration sheets before the 21st July. As we’re in the same league it’s exactly the same processes as last year. Kirkham Junior Club membership forms are attached with the e-mail. Once we have the league registrations these should be completed together.
New Season
For those of you who cant wait, the new season starts on 8th September.
Kit Orders
As I’ve highlighted in my texts I will be ordering KJFC gear in the first week of June. Please make your orders by 31st May.
Parents Meeting
Thank you to everyone who attended the meeting. Notes of points made/agreed are as follows:-
Attendees: K Gargett, R Whiteside, C Jefferson, L Jefferson, A Leeks, G Dinsley, P Robinson, P Neill, J Boardman, P Barber, D Barber, D McNeillie, D Collier, N Tattersall
Following are the items covered/agreed at the meeting:
1. Training for next season
· We will propose the same time slot as last year, ie 6.00 to 7.30 on Wednesday night at Kirkham Grammar School, starting in October. They are replacing the Astro Turf over the summer so it should be a lot better and less prone to cancellation. As a word of caution they will probably be a lot stricter on using the right footwear etc.
· We will continue to train alongside JFC Kirkham, but in separate groups
· Peter Robinson & Paul Barber will act as training cover in Karel &/or Ricks absence. Karel & Rick will provide a training ‘plan’ for them to work to.
· We will continue Monday & Wednesday training until the end of August. From September we will arrange Monday training on an adhoc basis, likely to be twice a month. Wednesday will be expected but Monday will continue to be optional. We will try to arrange alternative training for Mondays, e.g Boxing, assault course, or Circuit training. Any further ideas will be welcome.
2. Recognised assistants for match day
· Paul Barber & Grant Dinsley will take on responsibility for running or organising warm ups for both teams on match day. If James or Adam are playing in the second game they will allocate the task to someone else. A number of people have volunteered in these circumstances. Karel & Rick will provide a warm-up plan lasting 10-15 minutes
3. Home game help
· Lester Jefferson will organise the collection of the keys, assembling of nets, painting of lines and a ‘shelter’ (see below) for home games through a rotor system. Everyone is expected to help at some time during the season.
4. Training Kit
· We looking into obtaining sponsored training gear. Karel & Rick to establish the requirement & Lester will pursue the sponsorship
5. Summer party
· Agreed to hold a summer party at the Pear Tree, date to be confirmed but it will be in the next 4 weeks. Peter Robinson will look into the Drinks and DJ, Karel to book the venue, food requirements to be provided by everyone as allocated. To be confirmed whether it will be for just Kirkham or JFC Kirkham and Under 7’s as well.
· We also agreed to take the boys Go-Karting. Karel to book, hopefully the same day as the party.
6. Match day
· Karel will look to buy a tent/shelter for matches to be funded by the party &/or the U9 ‘fund’
· Erection of the tent will be covered by Lester (see point 3 above)
7. Maryfields pitch
· We are planning to run the Maryfields pitch the other way next season along the tree side (away from the houses) to avoid the infamous ‘hump’.
8. Tournaments
· Although the boys generally enjoy tournaments we will be more selective next season about which ones we enter. The Lytham one is well regarded, and we definitely won’t be entering one at Common Edge Road! We will avoid the 10 minute games. Neil Tattersall suggested a number of well run ones we will pursue next season. We may consider ones away from the Fylde. Note that next seasons U10 tournaments will be 11-a-side in preparation for U11’s.
9. Communication process
· Everyone was happy with texting as a communication tool. Next season Karel will only communicate once to everyone each week highlighting where and when the next game is. He will then assume everyone will be attending unless he hears otherwise. If you are uncertain about anything the onus is on you to check. We will assume everyone meets at the venue for away matches unless we hear to the contrary. Other than in the case of illness, anyone not advising us of absence before the end of Wednesday training will be dropped from next game.
10. Sub collecting
· Andrea Neill, Carole Jefferson & Tish Masters have volunteered to collect subs. We will collect at each session until the end of August and then monthly from September as we did last year. Karel will provide a checklist.
11. Website
· The website was well received. Lester suggested a number of improvements which were agreed. One included the potential of fund raising through site sponsorship. Lester will pursue.
12. Reporting in Newspaper
· Karel highlighted the fact that the reports in the papers were edited from his input, recognising that this editing sometimes makes them inaccurate.
13. AOB
· Karel & Rick highlighted that we are looking for a squad of 18, and will therefore be looking for, and trialling, new players over the summer. Karel & Rick also confirmed that Jordan Cartright won’t be joining us again (unfortunately) although he did play for us in the Lytham tournament last weekend. He’s joined the PNE academy.
Thanks to Peter Robinson for providing the venue (and the drink!!) and to everyone for their attendance at the meeting.
Well done if you’ve read to the bottom!!
Regards, Karel
