It was 1 st round Coulton Cup day on a bitterly cold morning on the first weekend of the New Year last Saturday in the Inkmasters Poulton Primary Under 10 7-A-Side League. The most exciting tie of the day was between two teams in
contention for the Div 1A championship, Fleetwood Town and YMCA and it was Town who went through with a slender victory. In the A game a Lewis Thom goal gave YMCA the lead but Town earned a 1-1 draw with a strike by Lewis Walmsley. The B contest was just as tight but a second half goal from Callum Greenhalgh was enough to give Town a narrow 1-0 victory and an aggregate 2-1 win. South Shore from Div 1A had to work hard to overcome Layton Juniors from Div 1B. The A game was a thriller which ended all square at 3-3. Shore’s goals came from Bailey Mulhall (2)
and Luke Raybould with the Layton marksmen being Nathan Bullen, Zac Gayton and Andrew Kinsella. In the B game strikes by Connor Hindle and Jake Watson proved enough to give Shore a 2-0 victory and a 5-3 overall win.
Div 1A strugglers BJFF went out to Div 1B title chasers FC Rangers by a 5-1 aggregate score. Goals from Elliot Green and Lee Turner gave Rangers a 2-0 A game win before a double strike by Brian Denyson and a goal from Ben Adams earned Rangers a 3-1 B game victory, James Gregson notching the BJ consolation. In an all Div 1A clash Thornton came away from Clifton Rangers with an overall 4-0 victory. A goal by David Sherry proved enough to clinch Thornton a 1-0 A game victory before they ran out 3-0 winners of the B game with strikes by Thomas Bushchini, Brandon Lefley and Jack Smith.
Div 1B league strugglers Squires Gate battled well against 1B leaders Foxhall before going out of the competition. Two goals from Kieran Wilson and a Dylan Nagliati strike gave Foxhall a 3-1 A game win, Adam Mantle on target for Gate. A double strike by Tyler Davies-Clarke then gave Foxhall a 2-0 B game victory and an aggregate 5-1 win. In another all Div 1B contest 2 nd in the table Wyre Juniors proved far too strong for bottom club
St Annes FC as they romped to an overall 19-1 victory. Wyre won the A game 7-0 thanks to a hat trick from Joel Platt and a two goals apiece by Alex Comerford and Oscar Lingard. Although St Annes did manage a goal in the B game they were swamped 12-1 as Sam Jeffrey and Lewis Cox both bagged four goals for Wyre. Matthew Tucker weighed-in with a hat trick with Luke Daniels also on target. Div 1A title chasers Lytham Juniors had a comfortable 8-2 aggregate win over Div 1B outfit Blackpool Rangers Blues. They came out 4-0 winners of the B game with goals from George Carter, Ellis Whorlton-Jones, George Smith and Alex Thomas. In the B game Lytham again hit four goals through Adam Hislop (2), Matthew O’Reilly and Charlie Bunn but the Blues did manage to score twice, Kyle Hodkinson and Joe Powell both on target in a 4-2 defeat.ഊPoulton Youth from Div 1A came out 10-0 winners against Spirit Of Youth from 1B. In a 9-0 A game victory Tom Blackhurst bagged a hat trick with Shaun Hunt, Harry Hesketh and Harry Whetton all bagging pairs. Spirit put up a determined display in the B game before being pipped 1-0, Matthew Catterall notching Poulton’s winner.
Div 1A league leaders Kirkham JFC proved too strong for their neighbours from Div 1B Warton Typhoons with an overall 15-1 victory. James Barber, James Boardman and Adam Dinsley all hit pairs in Kirkham’s 6-1 A game victory with Connor Langley netting the Warton consolation. Kirkham were even more on top in the B game and ran out 9-0 victors. Thomas Gargett and
Conor McNeillie both bagged hat tricks, Matthew Neill notched a pair with Jackson Ashworth also on target.
